A perfect day to celebrate golf partnership
Organisers are thrilled to announce the resounding success of the 2024 MDHS Charity Golf Day, which raised around $25,000 for Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) last week. One hundred and sixteen golfers from across 28 teams enjoyed perfect playing conditions at Maryborough Golf Club on Thursday 21 March.
The MDHS Charity Golf Day is run in partnership with True Foods and Maryborough Golf Club to raise funds for programs, services and equipment at Maryborough District Health Service.
“The annual fundraiser is a great chance to catch up with the friendly faces that support us each year as well as welcome new participants,” said Nickola Allan, Chief Executive Officer, Maryborough District Health Service.
“The money raised makes a huge difference in improving the health of the community across the region. This year the health service is planning to purchase simulation equipment for our training centre at Maryborough Hospital,” said Mrs Allan.
“The innovative equipment will be crucial in teaching life-saving emergency care skills to nursing students and healthcare workers to improve patient safety,” she said.
The event celebrated a special decade-long partnership between True Foods, Maryborough Golf Club and MDHS. The alliance has raised more than $220,000 to facilitate improvements to healthcare services in the region since 2014.
Participants heard how the collective effort from the fundraiser is making a real impact.
“We’ve been able to improve dining facilities for aged care residents, purchase new vehicles for patient transport and deliver Cancer Care Services,” said Mrs Allan.“This week we opened our first breast screening clinic in partnership with BreastScreen Victoria which has been years in the making.
“This is thanks to the funds raised for the mammography unit by Nick Weaver who is here today, with support from a wealth of community donations, the MDHS Charity Golf Day, Pratt Foundation, Cancer Care Australia, Maryborough Highland Society and family bequests. Thank you to everyone for your support,” she said.
True Foods National Sales Manager Food Service Robert Nackoski said the organisation was happy the day ran smoothly as a main event on the corporate calendar each year.
“Our team love coming back to support the MDHS Charity Golf Day. We get up at the crack of dawn to provide a tasty breakfast and lunch and love the opportunity to catch up with the suppliers and sponsors that help support the event so generously year-on-year,” said Mr Nackoski.
“Many of our employees live locally and benefit from the health service so this is a great way for us to give back to our team and the broader community,” he said.
Maryborough Golf Club Captain Dave Kerry announced the results for the Ambrose event.
“The MDHS Charity Golf Day is one of the main ways we support the community, and it’s great to see another fantastic day of friendly competition on the pristine course.”
Mr Kerry thanked golf club’s committee members, volunteers and greens staff for contributing to the day’s success before announcing winners in the men’s net, mixed net and scratch competition as well as nearest the pin, straightest drive and encouragement award to top off a great day.
“We’re still waiting on the final amount to come in from donations but are sitting at nearly $25,000 which is marvelous,” said Mrs Allan.
It’s not too late to contribute. If you would like to donate to help reach the $30K target, contact the health service on (03) 5461 0333.
“We’re so grateful to all our partners, sponsors, donors, players and supporters for helping us connect our community to great care through their contribution to the golf day,” said Mrs Allan.
