Proud past, future focused
Our health service has a proud history, and for over 160 years, we have been a valuable asset in the local community. Maryborough Hospital first opened in 1857 during the gold rush, and over the decades, we’ve grown, expanded and developed to meet the health needs of our community.
Maryborough District Health Service was established in 1993 under the Health Services Act 1988, after the amalgamation of Maryborough and District Hospital, Maryborough and District Hospice Inc, Central Victorian Community Health Services Inc and the Dunolly District Hospital. Following this, the Maryborough District Accommodation Group Inc and the Avoca Bush Nursing Hospital joined Maryborough District Health Service in 1995 and 1999.
MDHS is a high-quality local regional health service in Victoria, providing health care across all stages of life from pre-natal and newborn babies to the aged, families and carers.
MDHS services the Central Goldfields and Pyrenees Shire with campuses in Maryborough, Dunolly and Avoca. The strong clinical and social links between the three campuses ensure that the community is cared for by qualified staff committed to high standards of person-centred care.
