Employment benefits
Salary Packaging
Salary packaging is available to all employees and is part of a taxation law that provides generous tax concessions for employees of not-for-profit organisations, where money is deducted from your salary “pre-tax”, so tax is only paid on the remaining portion of your salary. The salary packaged money is paid to employees (tax-free) with each pay. This results in a significant reduction in the amount of tax paid. This tax-free amount is in addition to the normal income tax-free threshold.
Employee Assistance Program
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all employees at MDHS in an endeavour to provide help and support to employees at times when they especially need it.
The program provides employees with confidential counselling and support for work place or personal issues. It is intended to help employees deal with any problems which might adversely impact health, well-being and work performance.
Centre of Inspired Learning – COIL
COIL aims to provide work-based education and training for all staff and students to foster professional development and expertise. We are privileged to partner with Bendigo Kangan Institute to develop and nurture pathway opportunities for our local community. We currently support an onsite Endorsed Enrolled Nursing Training program, you can register your interest by contacting 5461 0368.
Graduates & students
Student Clinical Placements
MDHS fosters collegial partnerships with many Higher Education Providers to facilitate clinical placement opportunities from work experience to undergraduate and postgraduate placements. These are offered over a broad range of disciplines and in a variety of settings, including nursing, medical, occupational health, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, nutrition & dietetics, dental, social work, speech pathology, pharmacy, medical imaging, community services, health information management, supply, maintenance, kitchen and hotel services.
All students must direct placement enquiries to their current Course Co-ordinator, who then negotiates with our Staff Development Unit to arrange placements. ViCPlace is an integral part of this process.
Graduate Nurse Programs
Program Overview
Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) Graduate Nurse Programs are an exciting way to begin your career. The program aims to facilitate a smooth transition from student to the competent, confident professional Registered or Enrolled Nurse.
The quality of nursing care rests on the knowledge, skills and values of nurse clinicians. This is a crucial period of intensive, rewarding learning in a stimulating and positive environment for the graduate. For the nursing staff, it is an opportunity to foster the expertise of new practitioners to ensure that the future health care needs of the population are met.
The program offers graduates the opportunity to experience regional and rural nursing through a structured rotational process, including paid study days and debriefing sessions that focus on clinical decision-making, person-centred care, and professional practice.
Graduates will undertake four-month (minimum) rotations through clinical areas across our three campuses. A further opportunity exists for graduates to be involved in a specialty program over two years, either acute or aged care focus, and involving funded and supported completion of accredited certificate courses in the chosen area. Opportunities in speciality areas include urgent care centre, theatre, district nursing, dialysis, and aged care.
