Celebrate 50 Years of Deadly at Maryborough NAIDOC community event
The Central Goldfields community is invited to come together for a vibrant celebration of culture, connection and community at an early NAIDOC Week event in Maryborough on Thursday 25 June 2026.
Held at the Maryborough Pony Club from 10 am to 2 pm, the free event will celebrate the 2026 NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly — marking five decades of honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, culture, strength and survival.
The family-friendly celebration will feature a full day of live performances, hands-on cultural activities, community stalls and shared experiences designed to bring people together and celebrate the richness of First Nations culture.
The day will open with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
Visitors can take part in a range of activities throughout the day, including:
- Aboriginal art and craft workshops
- jewellery making and canvas painting
- interactive cultural displays
- children’s games and creative spaces
- the return of the popular pedal-powered smoothie bike.
The event is an opportunity for the whole community to connect, learn and celebrate together.
“NAIDOC Week is about recognising the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and celebrating culture, community and identity.
“This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, honours the people and communities who have carried culture forward and helped shape the next generation.
“There will be opportunities to learn, yarn, create and celebrate together.”
“We encourage everyone to come along, celebrate culture and spend time connecting with others in a positive and family-friendly environment.
“Families and community members can enjoy a free barbecue and fresh fruit while connecting throughout the day, “said MDHS Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers Tonya Fedel.
The event is coordinated by the local NAIDOC Committee, led by Asteria Services, with support from organisations and community groups across the Central Goldfields region.
