Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025 early in Maryborough

Monday 23rd June, 2025

Everyone in the Central Goldfields community is invited to join us for an early NAIDOC celebration at the Maryborough Pony Club from 10 am to 2 pm on Thursday 3 July 2025.

The event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and learn more about First Nations culture, while meeting MDHS Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers Tonya and Kymberley.

Both are dedicated to supporting First Nations families and individuals as they navigate the health system.

“This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “The Next Generation: Strength Vision & Legacy”, marks a powerful milestone—50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices culture and resilience.

“The theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead.

“It highlights the power of young leaders, the hope and vision of our communities, and the wisdom passed down from our Elders,” said Kymberley Williams.

The day will begin at 10 am with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony.

“These cultural ceremonies will be followed by a performance by Jungle City Dance, sharing stories through movement and song.

“Throughout the day, families can enjoy interactive cultural displays, art and craft activities, jewellery making and painting stations.

“We will also have the pedal-powered smoothie bike, which was very popular at last year’s NAIDOC celebration,” said Tonya Fedel.

Visitors can take home free giveaways including reusable bags, mugs and oral health kits.

A free BBQ lunch and fresh fruit will also be available for everyone to enjoy.

“This event is about coming together to learn, celebrate and connect,” said Kymberley.

The event is organised by the NAIDOC committee, led by Asteria Services, with numerous other local organisations contributing to the fantastic event on the annual calendar.

About NAIDOC

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, and is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations culture and histories, and participate in the celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through this local event at the Maryborough Pony Club.
