Celebrating the heart of maternity care at MDHS
On 5 May at Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS), celebrates International Day of the Midwife, recognising the vital role midwives play in supporting families through pregnancy, birth and the early days of a new life.
“Midwives are a trusted and familiar presence for many local families.
“Midwives are a trusted and familiar presence for many local families providing calm, professional support during pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives help families during one of life’s greatest joys and challenges to become confident new parents,” said Penny Browne, Women and Children’s Services Manager, MDHS.
This year’s global theme, “One Million More Midwives,” highlights a critical worldwide shortage of midwives, including in regional communities. Adequate midwifery care is linked to safer births, healthier babies and stronger support for families during early parenting.
That shortage matters because midwives make a real difference. When families have good midwifery care, they are more likely to have safer births, healthier babies and more support in those early days of parenting.
“Our midwives don’t just work in the hospital they are part of the community. They get to know families, answer questions big and small and support people through one of life’s biggest moments.
“Our midwives bring skill, compassion and confidence to every birth, ensuring women and their families feel safe, supported and empowered throughout their journey,” said Chief Midwife and Executive Director of Care Debbie Rogers.
MDHS’s new labour and birth suites have been designed with families in mind they are modern, welcoming spaces where women can feel comfortable and cared for during one of life’s most important moments.
“Every day, our midwives make a lasting difference to the lives of families in our region. Today is about celebrating their commitment, their expertise and the incredible care they provide,” said Ms Rogers.
International Day of the Midwife is a chance to recognise the passion and dedication of all midwives.
