Community invited to celebrate new era of care
Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) is inviting residents from the Central Goldfields, Pyrenees and surrounding areas to join a community celebration day at the new Maryborough Hospital.
The event will be held from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday 20 September.
Since opening in April, the $115 million hospital has been transforming healthcare in the region.
It has a 32-bed inpatient unit, two birthing suites, operating theatres, medical day unit, new consultant suites, a welcoming café, reception and more parking.
The hospital also features artworks and design elements created with Djaara Traditional Owners.
These features celebrate local cultural heritage and help make the hospital a culturally safe space for patients, families, visitors and staff.
MDHS Chief Executive Officer Nickola Allan said the celebration is important.
It provides an opportunity to thank the community and show how the new hospital is already improving healthcare.
“This is a once-in-a-generation transformation for our region,” Ms Allan said.
“The hospital is more than bricks and mortar. It provides world-class care close to home.
“The artworks and cultural developed with local Traditional Owners and First Nations artists highlight the importance of connection and respect for local heritage, she said.
“This event is our chance to say thank you to everyone who made this milestone possible.
“The feedback received from patients and community has been wonderful.
“Now we also want to start the conversation about what our community still needs in the future for health services,” she said.
The community opening will include:
- Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at 10 am
- Free sausage sizzle, proudly cooked by volunteers at Carisbrook Lions Club
- Guided hospital tours every 30 minutes from 11 am
- Displays and colouring-in corner for kids.
