Bringing better healthcare close to home

The new Maryborough and District Hospital is almost ready.

The modern facility will improve access, safety and patient care for our community now and into the future.

Changes to hospital services

From late April, hospital services will move to the new building which includes:

Urgent Care Centre & Medical Imaging (x-ray, ultrasound and CT)

  • 32 inpatient beds, two birthing suites and two operating theatres
  • Medical Day Unit (chemotherapy, dialysis and infusions)
  • Consulting suites for outpatient services (clinics and allied health)
  • More parking and an accessible drop-off zone
  • A welcoming reception and café for patients and visitors.

Patients will receive care throughout the move. However, some appointments may be rescheduled or postponed. No change to phone numbers.

Thanks for your patience as we move into a new era of healthcare.

Key dates

  • 14 April – Medical Imaging temporarily closes for move. X-ray and ultrasound available at St Arnaud. Plans in place to support urgent care and inpatients at this time.
  • 16 April – Theatre temporarily closes for planned surgery.
  • 28 April – First services start in new hospital – dialysis, pharmacy, outpatient appointments and medical imaging (by appointment only).
  • 29 April – Urgent Care Centre, Inpatient Unit and Maternity open at 7 am.
  • 30 April – Regular hospital services resume, excluding theatre.
  • 12 May – First planned surgical patients.

Getting there

Main entrance – Clarendon Street – Ground level

Access reception, café and lifts via stairs.

Neill Street entrance – Neill Street – Lower ground

Direct access to Urgent Care, Medical Imaging and lifts.

Wheel chair/accessible entry near short-term parking and drop off zone.

The old hospital entrance will close from 5 pm on 29 April. 

Temporary visitor restrictions

To help keep patients safe, visitor access will be limited in first few days:

  • 29 April – Visiting starts at 4 pm (except designated support people).
  • 30 April onwards – Standard visiting hours resume – 8 am to 8 pm, daily.

Final works from May

  • More accessible parking and turning circle
  • Restore the 1860s hospital façade
  • Install pedestrian ramp and native landscaping
  • Temporarily relocate Dorevitch Pathology to former Amherst ward.
