Applications are now open for the free Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) at Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS), delivered in partnership with Bendigo TAFE.

By enrolling in the free TAFE course, you’re paving the way to a nationally recognised qualification and a fulfilling career in healthcare
Whether you’re leaving school or returning to study, this is your chance to train as an enrolled nurse in a supportive, hands-on environment in Maryborough.
The Diploma of Nursing runs for two years. Classes are held three days a week, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. The next intake starts on Tuesday, 4 February 2025#.
Open days ahead
Join upcoming open days to meet the Bendigo TAFE Nursing Team, explore the campus and determine your eligibility.
Sessions will be held on Monday 28 October 2024, Wednesday 13 November 2024 and Tuesday 10 December 2024.
They will be held at the Centre of Inspired Learning (COIL) Classroom at Maryborough District Health Service and online.
According to MDHS Organisational Development Operations Manager Sarah Broad, training locally comes with many benefits.
“The free Diploma of Nursing course at Maryborough allows students to learn from experienced nurses in our community, gaining exposure to a variety of clinical scenarios in a supportive environment.

Bendigo TAFE CEO Sally Curtain highlighted the importance of the partnership with MDHS in preparing students for healthcare jobs of the future.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Maryborough District Health Services to address the critical shortage of nurses through this unique local training program,” said Ms Curtain.
“Through hands-on experience and exposure to real-world healthcare settings, our students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to start a rewarding career and make a meaningful impact in community,” she said.
Nursing student Louise Lovett, who is in her final year of the diploma, shared her experience of studying at Maryborough.
“I chose this course because it will give me the qualifications I need to serve my community in different areas of practice in the future, while being able to study locally.
“The opportunity to study close to home helped me balance family, work and study, which was something I couldn’t pass up,” she said.
