Making women’s health a priority at every stage of life
Women across the Central Goldfields and Pyrenees are encouraged to put their health first this Women’s Health Week, with two free events making it easier to access trusted health information, health checks and local support.
Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS), in partnership with Central Goldfields Shire Council and Pyrenees Shire Council is hosting events as part of this year’s Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week from 7 to 11 September.
“The 2026 theme, ‘Do it anyway’, encourages women to take small, realistic steps towards better health, even when life is busy.
“The events are designed to help women make informed decisions about their health by providing access to local health professionals, practical information and referral pathways.
“Women of all ages are welcome to attend, including younger parents, working women, older women and women from diverse backgrounds.
“The events will provide information on key topics such as women’s sexual and reproductive health, including healthy ageing through menopause and beyond, general tips for looking after your physical and mental health with blood pressure checks and heart health information. We hope to see women of all ages come along and take the opportunity to connect with healthcare professionals from MDHS in a relaxed, welcoming environment,” said MDHS Well Women’s Clinic Nurse Nicole Powers
Attendees can also access free blood pressure checks, speak with local health professionals, collect health resources and learn about services available through MDHS, including the Well Women’s Clinic.
“We want women to leave feeling informed, confident and connected to the local services that can support them at every stage of life,” said Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Ben Green.
Healthcare professionals available on the day will include Community Health Nurses and an Endorsed Midwife.
“Women often put everyone else’s needs before their own. Women’s Health Week is a reminder that your health matters too. Even one small action, like attending a health session or booking a check-up, can have a lasting impact,” said Pyrenees Shire Deputy Mayor Rebecca Wardlaw.
MDHS is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of women and families across our region.
