MDHS dental services moves to new digs

Tuesday 2nd May, 2023

Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) Dental Services team is settling into a new home on Neill Street in Maryborough.

The dental department has moved premises to make way for the Maryborough Hospital redevelopment.

“As part of the early works on the hospital redevelopment we refurbished the space above Clarendon Medical Centre to relocate dental services,” said David Edwards, Deputy CEO, Maryborough District Health Service.

“The clinic includes four bright treatment rooms with plenty of storage and a shared reception area,” he said.

“The refurbished facilities will enable dental services team to offer clients a more pleasant experience.

“The rooms provide views of the hospital precinct and there are TV screens on the ceiling to help patients relax as they sit in the dental chair.

“There is a new accessible toilet and ceiling roof hoist to support patient mobility needs, and a dedicated oral hygiene station for educational activities.”

The dental services team reopened services on Monday 1 May after a short closure to transition into the new rooms.

After a big clean up the team worked closely with representatives from Dental Health Services Victoria to move, calibrate and test dental imaging equipment and chairs.

MDHS worked with building contractor SJ Weir and the Victorian Health Building Authority to complete the refurbishment as part of the early works package on the hospital redevelopment.

“It’s been a big move and we appreciate the support from our project partners on the refurbishment and transition,” said Mr Edwards.

“We would also like to thank the staff and clients at Clarendon Medical Clinic for their cooperation during the works.

“Our dental services team is excited to get back to supporting our clients and make further gains on reducing dental wait lists,” he said.

“We currently have two dentists, an oral hygienist, three dental assistants, a dental trainee and an administrative support team here to drive our treatment and education programs.

“We’re also looking forward to getting back into the community to run dental education programs with local preschools, kinders and primary schools in the coming months.”

MDHS offers public dental health services by appointment to children and adults with a current concession card.
