MDHS supports community wellbeing

Thursday 11th September, 2025

Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) has been actively supporting local events in the lead-up to R U OK? Day on Thursday 11 September, encouraging meaningful conversations and promoting community connection.

R U OK? Day is a national initiative that reminds Australians to check in with one another, ask ‘Are you OK?’ and listen with care.

This year, MDHS team members participated in community activities designed to create safe and welcoming spaces for discussing mental health and wellbeing.

At the Maryborough Community House Chatty Café, locals were invited to drop in for a cuppa, have a chat and access information about local health and wellbeing services.

The informal setting allowed participants to connect with each other and learn more about available support in the region.

MDHS also partnered with Highview College to provide students with a fun and engaging day, featuring our smoothie bike and wellbeing activities.

“These events serve as a powerful reminder that it’s OK to ask for help and it’s important to check in with those around us.

“At MDHS, we’re proud to support activities that strengthen social connection and promote mental wellbeing across our communities.

“We thank our community partners, schools and all participants who helped bring these events to life,” said MDHS Chief Executive Officer Nickola Allan.

Staff across MDHS campuses were also encouraged to wear a splash of yellow and join in a sausage sizzle lunch.

These informal gatherings further created opportunities for staff to connect and have meaningful conversations with their peers.

“R U OK? Day is more than just one day, it’s a call to action that we should all carry throughout the year,” Ms Allan said.
