Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) is pleased to announce the opening of a dedicated health service to meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of women, girls and gender-diverse people in the Central Goldfields and surrounding areas.
The Sexual and Reproductive Advice Clinic (SaRA) located at Maryborough Hospital provides free and confidential services without the need for referral.
MDHS CEO Nickola Allan said the clinic offers services and advice around contraception, pregnancy choices, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fertility and sexual health.
The clinic is run by Endorsed Midwives who provide time-critical access to treatment, screening, prescriptions, counselling and referral, tailored to individual needs.
“Our Sexual and Reproductive Advice Clinic is dedicated to empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health,” said Nickola Allan, CEO, MDHS.
“The establishment of the SaRA represents our commitment to providing access to critical health services for our community, regardless of where they live, work or socialise.”
SaRA is LGBTIQ+ friendly and provides a culturally safe environment for all.
The team collaborate closely with local GP clinics and specialists to ensure seamless care for patients, with strong links to maternity and women’s health services.
The clinic is open four days a week: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday and Tuesday, and 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Online bookings, telehealth options, and language interpretation services are also available.
Clinic services include:
- Contraception and family planning: Expert advice on contraceptive methods and family planning options.
- Pregnancy care: Support for early pregnancy, medical and surgical abortion services.
- Sexual health: Treatment, screening and prescriptions, including emergency contraception.
- Pelvic pain and fertility: Assistance with conditions like endometriosis and fertility concerns.
- Counselling and referrals: Personalised counselling and referrals to specialists as needed.
“We are proud to offer a compassionate and respectful service that supports women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals to manage their health with dignity and care,” said Nickola.
